Home Treatment of Diarrhea

Diarrhea, the disease which comes up every now and then to leave you weak, unhealthy and pale has several home remedies too. If you are spending a lot of time in the toilet, then you should look for immediate relief. Diarrhea is an unpleasant health condition which no one wants to experience. But, it is not a severe disease and you don’t have to be scared of it. It lasts for 4 to 5 days and then eventually goes away with the right care and treatment. Here are some home remedies which help you in getting rid of diarrhea quickly.

 Drink lots and lots of water

Firstly, you should drink enough water and keep your body hydrated. During diarrhea your body loses a lot of fluid, then you need electrolytes to replace it. Drink sport drinks like Gatorade or fresh fruit juices other than prune and apply. Keeping yourself hydrated is a must in case of diarrhea.

Eat starchy food

Consuming precooked rice or tapioca may relieve your tummy. However, you should avoid a lot of salt or sugar as it aggravates diarrhea. You should avoid oatmeal as it has high fiber content. However, you can consume potatoes to restore the nutrients and comfort your tummy.

Probiotics

Probiotics are a rich source of creating good bacteria in your intestinal tract for a better gut atmosphere. They are present in specific few items like cottage cheese, beet kvass, green olives, dark chocolate, pickles, yoghurt, natto, tempeh etc. You can also consume probiotic in pill or powder form.

The good bacteria present in your intestinal tract help in the efficient functioning of your gastro system. They protect your intestines from infections. During the time when you consume antibiotics to fight any virus or bacteria, say in case of diarrhea, probiotics help to restore the balance of bacteria in your stomach.

Consume apple for diarrhea

Cook one or two apple till they get mushy. You may add a tsp. of butter, ghee, pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg powder. The mixture is very helpful to fight diarrhea.

Have bananas

You do not have to cook bananas. Just chop one or two bananas in small pieces, sprinkle little cardamom or nutmeg powder and consume it. Bananas are rich in potassium which helps in binding the stool to a great extent.

Eat rice with yoghurt as a remedy

Another easy to adopt remedy for diarrhea is to eat cooked rice with yoghurt. Take a cup of rice add, a little ghee and 3 to 4 tsp. of fresh yoghurt. Mix it together and eat it.

Drink chamomile tea

Chamomile tea has antispasmodic properties which help in relieving all types of intestinal disorders. It also helps in relieving intestinal inflammation. Just put some chamomile flowers along with peppermint leaves in a pan of boiling water and allow it to boil for 10 minutes. Consume this tea after restraining with a sieve for three times in a day.

Go for over the counter drugs

There are some casual medications for diarrhea which anyone can consume with your doctor’s supervision. These drugs will relieve the symptoms and help you get healed. If you are suffering from chronic diarrhea, then you should not consume any drug without consulting your physician. If you are having bloody diarrhea, then you may be experiencing severe abdominal pain and runny stool. You may get worse; thus it is important to get immediate medical attention.

The food which you should consume

Greasy and fried food does not go well with an intestine suffering from diarrhea. You should limit your intake of high fiber food like wheat, bran and even avoid fruits and veggies as it may increase bloating. Some of the food items which you should avoid when suffering from diarrhea are alcohol, beans, artificial sweetener like soda, soft drink, chewing and candies. Do not have coffee, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and berries. Also avoid consuming dairy products during and after the diarrheal condition.

Once you feel a little better start eating mild foods so that it doesn’t have too much impact on your gut. If you do not feel good even after doing the above home remedies, then it is advisable that you seek help of a medical professional immediately.
