Cause of colic

Cause of colic

The cause of colic is generally unknown.  Psychological and social factors have been proposed as a cause, but there is no evidence . Fewer than 5% of infants who cry excessively turn out to have an underlying  organic disease.  So when your family physician has properly examined your baby and he is sure  that there is not any organic cause   then only it is labeled as colic.  Fortunately, it rarely lasts beyond your baby’s third month, and usually peaks at about four to six weeks of age.
