If you are one who is suffering from a blocked tear duct and is in search of some solution, then there different ways through which you can get relief. There are various types of treatment which helps in widening the blocked tear duct. However, sometimes these things can cause problems such as pain, redness as well as tearing. This problem is being faced by many but it does not mean that everyone needs treatment to solve this problem.
So, in this article, we are going to discuss some steps by following which you can get rid of blocked tear duct and that too very easily.

Antibiotics help a lot sometimes to get rid of this problem. When you go for the consultation with your eye specialist, he or she may prescribe you an eye drop which contains antibiotics in it. However, antibiotics don’t help to open or widen up the blockage but it can definitely treat the eye infection by clearing up the discharge from your eyes.

Massaging is one of the easiest ways to solve the problem of blockage. This technique is often applied to the children. The massage is specifically given to the lacrimal sac. Lacrimal sac is that particular area of an eye where the tear duct exists. The massage is to be given twice a day. All you need to do is to take a cotton ball and gently start rubbing the lower corner of the eye. This massage will help in clearing out the tear duct.

Tear Duct Probing:

By following the massaging technique fails to open the tear duct of your child at the certain point of age, then it is very essential to consult with an eye specialist. He or she can remove that blockage by tear duct probing. When your kid sleeps, the doctor will clean the duct by placing a thin probe. However, this doesn’t cause any kind of pain and easily clears the blockage. After that, the doctor will prescribe an ointment or antibiotic which will help in curing this problem completely.

Balloon Catheter Dilation:

If after following the tear duct probing, the problem does not solve, then you may probably need to go for balloon catheter dilation. This is such a technique where the doctor places a thin tube into the tear duct and this is called a catheter which contains a balloon-like a thing. Now what doctor does is he inflates as well as deflates that balloon for widening the tear duct which helps in clearing the area.

A surgery named dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is also there which helps in widening up the duct. However, the treatment is specifically done to the adults. This surgery helps in generating new tear duct for draining the tears. This is the last option left.

So, these are some of the treatments by following which you can get rid of the blocked tear duct. However, it is equally essential to consult with an eye specialist. This is because eye specialist can recommend a perfect treatment for you or your child.
